Here's what happens when curiosity meets real explanation.
Light is an electromagnetic wave — energy traveling through space. The sun emits all visible wavelengths: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet. Each color has a different wavelength. Red is long. Blue is short.
When sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, it collides with gas molecules — mostly nitrogen and oxygen. This is called Rayleigh Scattering. Shorter wavelengths (blue light) scatter far more than longer wavelengths (red) — roughly 10x more. So blue light bounces in all directions across the entire sky.
When you look anywhere in the sky (not directly at the sun), scattered blue light is what reaches your eyes. That's why the sky appears blue — not because the sky IS blue, but because blue light is scattered everywhere.
Violet IS scattered even more than blue. But two things work against it: First, the sun emits less violet light than blue. Second, your eyes have three types of cone cells. They're most sensitive to red, green, and blue. Violet stimulates your blue cones but also your red cones slightly — your brain interprets this combination as blue, not violet. Biology shapes what you see.
